Body Mass Index
What is BMI?
BMI stands for "Body Mass Index," and is calculated
using a ratio between your weight and height. It is a
mathematical formula that correlates with body fat and is an
alternative to other tests used to determine body
composition.
BMI= Body Weight / Height x Height
Fill in the fields to
calculate your Body Mass Index:
Not for Pregnant women
Please note: body builders and strength-oriented
athletes have more muscle mass than the average individual. This results
in a heavier weight and Body Mass Index is not accurate for them.
Why is BMI
Important?
If your BMI is high you may have an increased risk of
developing certain diseases such as Hypertension, Cardiovascular
Disease, Osteoarthritis, and Adult-Onset Diabetes. Reducing and
controlling your weight are important steps to help you achieve a
healthy lifestyle.
What Do My
Numbers Mean?
The following table will help you access your health

Where do I go from here?
If you find that you have a higher than desirable BMI you
can do something about it. Consuming more calories than you burn can
result in a high BMI. Exercising, even in moderation can reduce your
BMI, lower your risk for disease and start you on the path to feeling
and looking better. There are no magic pills, just make the decision
today to start incorporating exercise in your daily life.
